Twittering Toulouse

Twitter, the microblogging tool, got a bit more interesting of late in these parts - at least for me. With a combination of a free Twitter account, an expensive iPhone and the free Twitterlator application I'm kinda enjoying, and a little amazed, that I can send a tweet with a link to my location on a map and add a picture of wherever I am. All in a ten seconds. It's not something I'll clog this blog up with - it's clogged up enough - but if you have an iPhone you might think of trying it out. You can see the (mostly dull) pictures I tweet at Twitpic. And above is the streetview of the market in Toulouse I visit four or five times per week and where I twittered this morning. You can click the image to zoom in, spin around etc. Very clever these Google people.

Bun Cha Toulouse

There's a restaurant over the road and it sells "Bun Cha Hanoi". I don't want to get my hopes up too high - this is France after all and not Hanoi - but it's a tempting enough find to reawaken the pavement smoke and charcoal cravings. A table has been booked.

Blinkin' nora that were right intense for the south of France in the middle of May... more here.

UPDATE: And the local press get in on the act with snaps from Toulousaine and videos uploaded to Daily Motion on the "busy" La Dépêche website.

The psychedelic sounds of Toulouse

There's a psychedlic music exhibition at the Médiathèque in Toulouse this month and into June entitled Psychédélisme des Usa à l'Europe. It consists of a vast array of Magazines, LPs, 7 inch single covers, sixties artefacts and the nicknacks of the interplanetary explorers of yore. It's a fascinating exhibit to trawl. I can't claim to know all the musicians represented, but I am partial to a bit of Stones, a smidgen of 13th Floor Elevators, a spoonful or two of the Velvet Underground and a dash of The Seeds. If you're in town, pop along. I think I'll be going again and again until the exhibit closes towards the end of June. Full exhibit slideshow here and a dollop of The Seeds below.

The exhibition includes film projections on sundays 25 Mai, 1 Juin, 22 Juin at 3 pm in the afternoon. Could be worth checking out if you're in town.

PS. My lord Google is quick... toulouse psychedelia mediatheque I was just looking to see if the Médiathèque in Toulouse had something online, but no... Wow.
