Hear Vietnam

Quiet American has a fascinating wee page fulll of MP3 recordings of sounds from Vietnam. Thanks to Mr. Finger-on-the-Saigon-culture-pulse and one of my fave Vietnam bloggers, Diacritic, for the link. While we're in linkmood I met up with two (popular) bloggers Jason Kottke and Meg Hourihan for a fab Banh trang phoi suong lunch yesterday. They don't exactly need my humble linkjuice, but they were great company over nibbles and dribbles. Look forward to seeing how they find Saigon and what, if anything, they follow up on my edible suggestions. Meanwhile, if your musical interests cover the avantgarde, pop and electronic worlds I urge you again to grab this Magnetophone MP3 - it's hot, hot, hot.

UPDATE: I just read that Sonic Boom has been doing some stuff with Magnetophone. I've (kinda) known Sonic since Spacemen 3 days - we grew up in the same town - although we did have slightly different hobbies. But he's a genius in my book,

"The Sonic Boom MAGNETOPHONE mix [was] made 'single of the week' in stores like Piccadilly in Manchester & Rough Trade in London, [and it was] bigged up in The Sun newspaper... it's apparently very limited - 200 copies on pink vinyl - one-sided with sexy Envelope 23 sleeve... Piccadilly Records, Rough Trade and Boomkat all have or had stock. Here's a review from Piccadilly Records:

"Ultra limited one track remix 12". This is a huge Kosmische groover of a remix by the ex-Spacemen 3 genius. Building from a Neu!-esque motorik groove it adds wonderful splashes of cosmic noises and sounds and then lasts forever! This is essential!!"

Essential indeed. Post domain buying excitement almost over. Back on food later. Promise. Santos, Anthony -  you're up on these cats, yeah? Sonic - get a blog.
