No Reservations. No strawberry wine?
Anthony Bourdain revisits Vietnam next week. This time he's going to the Central Highlands. Wonder what he'll dig up? Mi Quang in Danang? (I hope). Cao Lau in Hoi An? (I hope). Strawberry Vang Da Lat ( I hope not, for his sake...) Beyond Hoi An, I didn't really explore the Central Highlands of Vietnam for food, unlike some others. Although I used to get my greens delivered to my door from there once per week. Alors, his show is on Monday, Mar 29 at 10 PM E/P. Guess it'll be online for the rest of us fairly soonish.
Thanks for the info Graham. I'll watch for sure.

"That's not wine, that's liquor".
Yeah the fact that in Vietnamese, all forms of alcohol other than beer translate to "rượu" (and they are taught that "rượu" translates as "wine") can cause a bit of confusion.

I thought this was a disappointing episode. I think Tony should get a better guide next time. That guide was clueless and boring. He could've gone to other places in central provinces instead of back to Ha Noi for the 100th time.

Wow, Jeremy must be another bitter southerner. It's so pathetic all the comments made by southerners upset as if it's a crime that Tony goes to the north so much. I was born and raised in the South (although living in the US now) and it's simply another case of regionalism on display.
That clueless guide is from Hanoi so of course he's going to show Tony around that area. The past two times Tony has profiled Vietnam with that guide he has brought Tony to a diverse array of places from hometown restaurants to a nice personal family dinner for Tet. If you don't like it, get over it!

I met Mr. Bourdain briefly in MN. He seemed to be a man of genuine, intriguing character. Any VN episode on NR always holds a special place in my heart. My beloved Viet Nam is in my blood and soul. I am quite touched by AB’s sensibility & humility in his encounters with Viet Nam-the land, its culture & people. His writings, words & interactions pertaining to Viet Nam feel organic & instinctual. His VN episodes often reduce me to tears due to the poetic content, sublime beauty and the damn delicious food! Ah, Mr. Bourdain, thank you immensely for seeing Viet Nam with an open heart as well as allowing yourself & viewers to discover this country with a sense of hunger and passion. Welcome to Viet Nam, the magic!
ps: I've grown to like Linh- a quite measured person. Ha, she's quite charming in this episode. And Mr. Bourdain? this one particularly, Bourdain was "home" to be with his friends!

I thought it was a great episode. I myself am living in Saigon now and very much want to go to the highlands again and to see Hanoi for the first time, thus the episode was particularly valuable to me.
