Let's move to Kigali
If France couldn't re-kickstart my foodblogging habit, how about Kigali? Worth a shot ehh? We've only been here a week (of an 18 month stretch) and it already looks unlikely the Rwandan capital will succeed in re-igniting an interest in foodblogging. However, it does appear there's plenty else of interest going on. More on all that in good time. Meanwhile, the above slideshow consists of just a few snaps I managed to capture in between getting settled in the new house and learning how things work in east Africa. I'll be posting more here, tweeting on kigaliwire, as well as on noodlepie as per usual, and setting up kigaliwire.com in the coming weeks. More soon.
I'd like some photos of dishes and recipes now please. :)

welcome to kigali! i used to visit a lot for work, but haven't been in a year. if you get a chance (and it's still going) you should check out a proper "melange" lunch somewhere. the basement resto at the hotel isimbi in the centre of town used to be pretty good (and cheap!) the melange is a bit of a rwandan institution. it's a type of buffet which can involve having plantain, potatoes (cooked 2 different ways), spaghetti, meat, fish, two types of beans and salad - all on the same plate! it might seem strange to some, but it's a real godsend for those who only get one meal a day (hence the often wobbling mountains of food consumed). also try and check out the fried fish (fresh from the lake) with lime and chips at lake muhazi. it's a beautiful spot, and allegedly the only district in the whole country where no violence took place during the genocide.

What you up to in Kigali Graham?

Thanks for the err... interesting tip lkm, I will be sure to keep an eye and stomach out for that :)
Thanks Tracey, will see what I can do, but initial impressions are not that exciting I must say :(
Probably media development work Ben, but I'm keeping my options open. I will be "commuting" a bit to Europe and the Middle East, but maybe just for the next few months then I think I'll focus on work here in Rwanda. I'll keep you posted.

Lived there for 2 years. Rwandan cuisine: Potatoes, plaintains, beans, beans, beans. Or maybe it has changed; that was two years ago.
