Street food TV
I was digging around for street food links to put together a short post on street food on the BBC Good Food blog - go over there and click, there's some amazing stuff from Burma to India and over to Mexico. But, there's one link I discovered and forgot to add. So here it is.

Hey Graham
I would post this over at the BBC blog but it wants me to register and I am too lazy.
I've been really heartened by the street food "scene" in London...there's Whitecross Street by Old Street tube, which has an eclectic selection of lunch vans Monday through Friday. On Sundays, there's a random collection of ethnic food at the Sunday Up Market on Brick Lane. And throughout the week, there are a bunch of interesting stands in Camden Lock Market.
Sure, street food is not omnipresent in London, and it's not perhaps of the number and/or variety that you would find in Asia--I remember being wowed by the number of stands in Bangkok that popped up during the evening commute--but things are happening...in my humble opinion...

Hmmm... OK, I guess it's the omnipresence I'm referring to. These caged in, controlled, Singapore hawker centreish places are not what I think of when I think of street food. It's food that happens to be on the street in a place designated to be fit for that kind of thing at a designated time etc. etc. Sadly, this is the way Vietnam and other SE Asian countries will probably go. And please don't think this is some romantic thing I have going on here. I am not in the least bit romantic about street food. I just happen to think as a way of eating the wee mum and and dad stalls you find in some places around the world are the best places you can eat anywhere.

You get my "You Make My Day" award. We used your site religiously while living in Saigon-- thanks so much for making it so easy to search based on types of stalls/vendors. We lived off of Le Thanh Ton and really ate our hearts out every day-- and only got a little sick one time, but that could have been anything. Yay, street food in Vietnam!

Graham - this brought back recent memories of our trip to Thailand. Basically £5 stuffed the two of us until we could barely move. Street food rocks!

Ahh Pieman - I love it when you pimp my videos!
When I eventually get round to finishing my Burmese cookbook, I'll be relying on you for further pimpage then :-)
