Norfolk Arms

Spent a few days in London this past week. Possibly the most memorable few hours were spent with my friend Dom in the Norfolk Arms in Bloomsbury nibbling tapas, quail, lamb, Spanish cheese & quince jelly, quaffing La Gitana and then... sinnin' it with a sticky toffee pudding. The Norfolk Arms is excellent; très chilled, great service, quality scoff without any of that pretentious prima donna Londonitis. I did remark to Dom upon chomping the sticky toffee,

"This is the best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had. In fact this is the best dessert I've ever had."

As I blog, I'll chasten my initial enthusiasm with a smidgen of reserve until I eat here again next month, but I very much suspect my opinion will remain unaltered. The quail was also superb. The menu changes regularly. Here are some more snaps and thanks Dom for an absolutely corkin' lunch.

Update: I've just noticed Dom has also blogged a bottle of wine he recommended and then opened. It's Lebanese, it's called Château Musar and it doesn't taste like marmite.

British cooking if ever I saw it. The French can't do this.

That looks like the best sticky toffee pudding I've never eaten. Lovely.

The problem is the French don't WNAT to do this Trig :) And Fraser, we should really eat this the next time I'm in town. I see your rollercoaster has gotten legs :)

I ate at the Norfolk Arms this evening, and had the Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was very good, but I prefer my STP to be a bit stodgier, and certainly featuring more goo - I like to feel the fat tightening in my arteries. Their version was a little light on true badness, I feel.

Ahah... this is exactly why I liked this version. It wasn't over sticky, over gooey, over heavy. You could eat this and go and play a game of tennis. Whereas your bog standard trad. STP requires a chaise longue and a bevvy of servants to fan you down while you snooze it off. There's a time and a place for that, but it's not in a restaurant :)

Thanks for the recommendation — will definitely try this pub out. I also like Chateau Musar; we get it from Ocado.
